Maori wood carving

Much ancient Maori art existed without protection from the elements, and is lost. But the tradition carries on in elaborate carvings reminiscent of a much earlier time. It's part of our look at New Zealand in the February issue.

Stairway

Oskar Schlemer's "Bauhaus Stairway" is a 1932 modernist work with more than a hint of cubism in its structure. It's part of an exhibit at New York's Museum of Modern Art. MoMA and other NYC museums have raised a crop of fine restaurants operating beside their priceless art and artifacts. Read more about them in the January issue.

This richly-hued, stained glass rendition of a heavenly angel was produced by American artisans in the 1870s. It is original to St. Joseph’s, the local Catholic Church in Macon, Georgia. This month we take a look at both Savannah and Macon on a road trip to Georgia.
