Your Privacy
"Nothing is more important to us than the trust and confidence of our customers. You have my word on it."
-- Ken Petchenik, Editor and Publisher, Passport Newsletter
Passport Newsletter is committed to protecting the privacy of our online visitors. We collect information from online visitors who ask to be on our newsletter mailing list and/or receive periodic email announcements. Anyone who wishes can choose to be removed from our mailing list at any time.
In addition, online visitors who wish to purchase a subscription through our Web site must provide their name, email address, mailing address, phone number, and credit card number with expiration date. All credit card transactions occur over a secure connection and are processed by a third party, either Verisign or PayPal. Your credit card or e-banking information is not transmitted to Passport Newsletter by these processors.
Our server uses the SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) protocol for encryption. This means that credit card transactions are secure for browsers that support SSL.
All online visitor data collected by PassportNewsletter.com is protected against unauthorized access. We will not sell, trade, or give your personal information to other companies or organizations.
Surveys and Comments
From time to time, we ask our subscribers and others to participate in marketing surveys. The purpose of these surveys is to help us improve our business and our publications. The information collected in these surveys is used in the aggregate by our staff in a responsible way as part of our on-going management process. It is also used in helping us plan the editorial content of our publications. Individual comments received from subscribers and other consumers are also shared among our staff and used in the same way and for the same purpose. Statistical summaries of our survey information as well as comments and opinions obtained from our subscribers may be released to selected third parties. In all cases, such comments and opinions will remain anonymous.
We are very grateful to those who take the time to share their thoughts and participate in our marketing surveys, and offer our most sincere thanks.
Blog
Please note, if you participate in any blog, any comments you make and any identity you use become public in a permanent way. This is an Internet reality that applies to all blogs. We recommend you choose a blogger identity (such as "Happy Traveler" or "A. Smith") that shields your actual identity, and avoid sharing details that could let others trace your identity (such as the specific dates and room number of a particular hotel stay).
Cookies
Passport Newsletter employs cookie technology to obtain information about browser types and operating systems. This information has helped us know, for example, that the number of visitors using Mozilla Firefox and Apple Safari as their browsers has grown quite a bit in the past year or so, which in turn helps us to make sure our systems work well for those visitor preferences. The purpose of our cookie is to improve technical performance. It is not the purpose of our cookie to obtain personally identifiable information, but if they should, and/or if future technologies should, then we will use information only in the aggregate for statistical purposes.
Children’s Privacy
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. If we learn that we have personal information on a child under the age of 13, we will delete that information from our systems.
Passport Newsletter encourages parents to go online with their kids. Here are a few tips to help make a child's online experience safer:
- Teach kids never to give personal information, unless supervised by a parent or responsible adult. Includes name, address, phone, school, etc.
- Know the sites your kids are visiting and which sites are appropriate.
- Look for website privacy policies. Know how your child's information is treated.
Visit the FTC's site for more tips about protecting children's privacy online.
Our Privacy Policy is reviewed periodically by Passport Newsletter and may be subject to change.
Law Enforcement Cooperation
Passport Newsletter's policy is to fully cooperate with any legitimate law enforcement authority or court which might ask us the identity of someone who posts messages to our blog or interacts with us in other ways.
